Staines is a good place to stop over at.
It has some Victorian buildings and probably the star is the Old Town Hall which is ‘saved as’ now a modern uses it river well around.
The Swan Hotel is well worth visiting.
Despite the fact it is in the process of being restored.
Inside it has wonderful unspoilt interior including wood floors I had a half of great real ale their on Sunday night and a full English breakfast on Monday morning.
The trip back to Harris Boat yard is only a couple of miles and involved one lock at Penton Hook.
The journey started in fair weather and there were a few sights to record. On the north bank right on the tow path is a stunning St Peter’s Church with its imposing spire.
There were also plenty of swans around. Swans are of importance to Staines.
This is developed elsewhere. http://davidjfutcher.blogspot.com/2010/05/swans-and-staines-statues.html
By the time Harris Boat yard was in sight the weather turned and it even brought on hail stones and gusting winds. Not the best end to the trip especially a difficult bit of mooring against the stream.
