Great stretches of water

The Capital Ring provides walkers with a hidden corridor round London.
I have been out recently on the seven mile section between Wimbledon and Richmond.
What wonderful sights it provides.
There are some great stretches of water on way. A lake, mere and ponds!
The majestic Wimbledon Park Lake was created by Capability Brown and is well used for sailing and canoeing.
Then there is the serene Queen's Mere on Putney Heath formed in 1887 by damming Beverley Brook.  This stretch of water was a favourite retreat of the Wombles in Elizabeth Beresford books!
Finally there are Pen Ponds in Richmond Park which take some beating for watching water birds.
